xess.io is a massively multiplayer take on chess. Instead of one opponent across a small board, you share a huge board with other players and bots, each moving pieces at the same time. You type a name, join a mode and try to capture pieces and survive as long as you can while your score builds up.
The game runs in the browser with no download, so you can jump into a round in seconds. Several modes change the pace: classic uses a 64x64 board, powerup zone and bot chaos stretch it to 80x80, while tiny 8x8 and speedy 12x12 keep things tight and fast. Familiar chess moves meet real-time chaos, which keeps every round unpredictable.
How to play xess.io
- Type a name in the box and pick a mode such as classic 64x64, powerup zone, bot chaos, tiny 8x8 or speedy 12x12.
- Press JOIN to drop onto the shared board with other players and bots.
- Move your pieces using normal chess movement to capture enemy pieces and avoid being taken.
- Keep playing until you are knocked out, then check your final score and join again to beat it.
Tips for xess.io
- Moves come with a short timer, so think one step ahead and keep your pieces from sitting where an enemy can reach them next.
- On the big 64x64 and 80x80 boards, stay aware of pieces approaching from every side, not just one direction.
- Try tiny 8x8 or speedy 12x12 when you want quick, close fights, and the larger boards when you want room to plan.
- Bot chaos fills the board with computer-controlled pieces, which makes it a good place to practice capturing before facing real players.
