About Colonist
Colonist is a free online alternative to the board game Settlers of Catan. You play on a board of hex tiles, gather resources, and use them to build up your territory while other players race to do the same. You can play single player or multiplayer, online or with friends.
It runs in the browser with no download or sign up, so you can jump into a match in a few seconds. The fun comes from planning where to build, making smart trades and adjusting when the dice do not go your way. Leaderboards and rooms give you plenty of opponents to test your strategy against.

How to play Colonist
- Choose Play Online to join a match, or Play with Friends to set up a room and invite people.
- In a private room, pick the game mode, map, rules, turn timer and max players, then mark yourself ready and start the game.
- Place your starting settlements on the hex board, then collect resources from the tiles next to them as the game goes on.
- Spend and trade resources to build more, and keep growing until you reach the winning score set by the rules.
Tips for Colonist
- Place early settlements next to a mix of different resources so you are not stuck waiting on one type.
- Trade with other players when you have extra of one resource, since a quick trade can let you build a turn sooner.
- Watch the turn timer in timed games and plan your moves while other players take their turns.
- Pay attention to what your opponents are building so you can claim key spots on the board before they do.
